Temples at Thanksgiving

I shot this picture of the Temples during Thanksgiving ... I think the sun may have been just a bit too bright

The Famous Cow Bag is still making the rounds after 15 Years!

Here we are at Kim's big Thanksgiving bash

Photo taken by Kim ... see all the photos at http://www.flickr.com/photos/mccoyworld

Some (semi) recent miscellaneous Pics

Karin visits her family in St Petersburg

A really great short vacation to Florida

On our way to Kija's wedding we stopped at Disney's Epcot Center (Karin's most favorite place). ... And we had a great time.  On the left, Karin hanging out in 'France'.  In the center, we watched a Canadian bagpipe rock band (that's right, a bagpipe rock band!).  The lead singer was Irish and another member was a Scot ... the others were Canadian.  It was a hoot.  Pictured on the right is Karin standing between two fountains that shoot water over your head ... I had one pic with water shooting over her head, but this shot of her looking a bit apprehensive was better.

The Christmas Season was very good (2006)

With Maren and Brian delivering my new (old) Cadillac from Carlsbad, we were blessed with seeing much of the family during the holiday season.  We really missed Matt and Wendy's family and Mike and Anna's family, but we're planning a mega-trip to the West in the March-April-May time frame.  I think there's one more cross country road trip left in the old Explorer (She's coming up on 180,000 miles ... wow).  I think we'll be on the road for a couple of months, making the big circle back through South Dakota.

OK, enough of our future itinerary, lets have a look at some of the photo's from the Christmas season, which was a real blast.

Christmas in Alpharetta

McCoy's, Temple's, Pattersons, and Folsoms all descended upon the Alpharetta home of David and Kim on the day after Christmas for a combined  Christmas celebration and baby shower for Kim.

New Mexico and Arizona

Karin taking in Mule Hoof Canyon with the Salt River running through it.  .... Central Arizona.

The three photos above are from Route 66 ... The Mother Road.  The interesting thing about the center photo is that the pumps were the old fashioned type with a crank on the side and mechanical numbers ... identical the ones I used when I was pump jockey back in the day.  The photo on the right is an original stop in a small town in New Mexico.  My first trip to California when My dad graduated from the University of Minnesota was on Route 66 in 1951.

Denny visits Emory Hospital for his Post-Polio ... Final Report

Emory has an excellent program for Post-Polio patients.  I've visited with a doctor at Emory who has significant experience with Post-Polio and I'll be spending the next several weeks with a physical therapist at Emory who works with Post-Polio patients.  I'll be reporting on the results.

Update 09/21/05

The first two visits have been very helpful.  However, according to my therapist, I should now be using my crutches 100% of the time rather than my cane. ... and for distances greater than a half block total, I should be using a wheelchair or scooter.  I've got two more visits scheduled and I'll report those results next week.

Final Update 10/28/05

Well, I finished physical therapy with a final visit with my doctor.  The therapist recommends stretching exercises along with warm water pool exercise.  The doctor had prescribed some new medication that has helped some of his Post-Polio patients ... it did nothing for me  ... so everyone agreed that my path forward is to use crutches/wheelchair and pain medication when needed.  ... oh well.

Heather and Kristin visit Alpharetta to greet Kendra

On the left, Keller and Kendra.  On the right, Heather, Kim and Kristin ... fun with babies.

A trip to the beach delighted the Folsoms (2006)

We took a Christmas trip to Fernandina Beach, one of our favorites. It was a great day and everyone loved it.

... And he's still having birthdays!

While not exactly part of the Christmas season, the Temples threw a wild gala birthday party for their favorite grandpa  ... here are a coupe of pics.

Brent looks pretty excited .. don't you think?

Denny, Brian, and Brendan Visit St Augustine

St Augustine is America's oldest continuously occupied settlement having been established in 1565, 55 years before Plymouth Rock .

Here are some pics of Denny and Brendan at Castillo de San Marcos, a fort which survived the British invasion of 1702.

Denny's little project finally completed

I somehow got it my head to make a tile table.  Above is the fruit of my labor.  Not all that amazing, but I did make it myself.

Charlotte

Karin spent a month helping Heather and Jeff (and about halfway through her stay, Keller).  I joined the group for Keller's arrival .. he arrived Aug 31. (note ... Keller missed being born on our wedding anniversary by 2 minutes.)  Here are photos of that visit.

Karin with Keller

Proof positive that I can actually hold a newborn ... at least for a few minutes.

Denny meets an Old Friend

While we were in Arizona, I was able to make contact with a High School buddy, Kirk Given.  It'd been over 30 years since we last made contact.  Kirk now lives in Bakersfield CA so we agreed to meet half way at Havasu City AZ.  We spent a couple of days getting caught up, renting a boat and cruising Lake Havasu.  Lake Havasu is just a few miles from one of our grand Easter vacation adventures. (perhaps to be told at some future time)

This is Kirk and me circa 1965.  I was recovering from back surgery (I'm wearing a back brace) and Kirk was recovering from a seriously mangled leg (an unfortunate conflict between Kirk-on-a-motorcycle and a car  ... car won)

Here we are forty years later at Lake Havasu.

Dad Gets a New Toy

Here I am with my brand new grill ... look pretty happy, don't I.
